BANGCHAK

It is nothing new that development has been creeping out of Bangkok’s center to places with more availability of land. This shift organically occurs along the mass transit network as access to this is a huge selling point as urbanites value its convenience and rely on it to get around. This pattern is common in any growing city that is experiencing urbanisation and it helps to boast new areas.

Bangchak, located is the east of the capital, is a prime example of a neighborhood that is going about change. The arrival of new condominiums along the Green Line of the BTS Skytrain network has seen life around these stations start buzzing. Once new homes are built, services and businesses have followed suit providing places for residents to spend their hard earned cash. Bangchak has welcomed an increasing number of expatriates over the years who bask in the comfort and efficiency of the BTS Skytrain network. Its location slightly further out of the city is to its benefit since passengers joining the network here can enjoy the luxury of getting a seat on the morning commute into one of Bangkok’s CBDs.

Play locally.

But why have people started to move to this corner of Bangkok? Well aside from the obvious natural migration of people along the network, Bangchak is rich in Thai culture which can be lost in more central locations. There is a wealth of tasty local Thai food available here, with street food adorning both Sukhumvit sois 95 and 97 ensuring you never go hungry.

For those with a western appetite there are plenty of alternatives. From restaurants dishing up Italian, Mexican, Vietnamese and Chinese fare, to cute places serving just dessert and cafes for the ultimate caffeine fix. Entrepreneurs saw the opportunity in Bangchak and new places suited to this growing demographic have been springing up with more expected on the horizon as a continuing number of homes are built. Sukhumvit Soi 101, a short distance from both Bangchak and Udom Suk, is a popular local hangout that could give Thong Lo a run for its money. This road is home to a host of dining and drinking venues including some craft beer bars that come alive at night providing the ideal place to unwind.

Connectivity at your fingertips.

The rest of Sukhumvit is also on Bangchak’s doorstep. With the ease of the BTS Skytrain it is just 17 minutes to reach Siam on the Green Line, 11 minutes to Asoke and 7 minutes to Thong Lo. These figures demonstrate the sheer success of Bangkok’s mass transit network since travel times to these destinations would be considerably more by car beneath the Skytrain due to the congestion on the roads. In the opposite direction, Udom Suk is two stops away and just 4 minutes on the train to reach its popular local market that sells everything from seafood to fresh fruit and vegetables.

The last string to Bangchak’s connetivity bow is its quick access to the highway via Sukhumvit Soi 62. Perfect for those who travel frequently from the airport or like to venture out of the metropolis at the weekend, this direct route is an invaluable asset to keep road travel times to a minimum.
