SILOM
What was once just know as a place just to work, Silom has shifted its focus and today people choose to reside here over its rival and Bangkok’s other most sought after place to live: Sukhumvit. Whilst Silom as a base is nothing new, over the years the streets have changed to offer more than something for the office workers. All the everyday services and amenities are easily accessible like anywhere in Bangkok, but what what Silom achieves so poignantly is its exciting mix of traditional Thai culture sitting next to the most cutting edge new construction. Visitors can enjoy the view with a sundowner at one of the area’s many rooftop bars or draw up a stall on the street and tuck into some tasty local fare on Soi Convent. Even better still is that come the weekend Silom is quiet and the sense of community shines through.
Central Location.
Silom’s position in the core is unbeatable. It borders Bangkok’s prestigious Lumphini area that boasts some of the capital’s most luxurious hotels and residences, as well sitting next to the Chao Phraya River and Chinatown. Both of which are currently going under mass redevelopment drawing in people wanting to embrace these buzzing enclaves. There is a heightened interest in Chinatown since it is steeped in history but also its heritage is being preserved bringing all the local shophouses back to their former glory to become the latest trendy hangouts.
Enviable Connectivity.
The Silom Line of the BTS Skytrain network can be used to map out the area. Unlike the Green Line which runs in a fairly straight line above Sukhumvit Road, the Silom Line’s route demonstrates the engineering feat achieved to build this efficient transport means as it takes sharp 90 degree turns amongst the area’s high rise building.
This branch of the mass transit network starts in National Stadium on the edge of Chinatown before meandering through Siam, past the pristine Royal Bangkok Sports Club and the luscious Lumphini Park before arriving in Silom at Sala Deang BTS Station in just five minutes. Here passengers can interchange with the MRT underground at Silom Station to explore Chinatown in one direction, or head northwards to Sukhumvit and onto then Rama 9 in the other direction providing travel to every corner of the city.
The BTS leaves Sala Deang above Silom Road before turning into Chong Nonsi and then gliding above Sathon Road past the shiny skyscrapers that pack in the office workers to reach Surasak. Next it heads over the Chao Phraya River traveling to Thon Buri.
Wealth of Attractions.
Silom takes pleasure in its central location and is the entry point to Bangkok’s most prized green space: Lumphini Park. A calm oasis in the middle of the city, this much loved park is enjoyed by all generations, whether it is participating in some aerobic activity as the sun goes down, taking a swan pedalo out onto the lake, or exercising in one of the outdoor gyms. There is even a library and designated children’s library within the confines of the park.
Whilst office workers do descend upon Silom on a daily basis frequenting local restaurants and street food stalls at lunchtime and as dusk falls, there are considerable numbers of people living in the area too. An increasing number of new places to eat and drinks are arriving showcasing cuisine from the around the world. This locale also has a wealth of more upmarket restaurants, some situated in refurbished traditional Thai houses adding to their charm, whilst others working hard to maintain their awarded Michelin Star. At the end of the scale, there is abundance of more everyday dining destinations including a wealth of Indian food on Pan Road.
Just behind the iconic King Power MahaNakhon building which sits right next to Chong Nonsi BTS and is the city’s second tallest building is Sathorn Soi 10 and 12. These two adjoining sois offer tranquility away from Silom’s main hustle and bustle, and is a lively evening hangout filled with eateries and drinking holes suite to a range of tastes and budgets. ASHTON Silom is walking distance adding to its appeal as well as being close to the British Club further down Silom Road. This private members club has an unrivalled setting with a colonial style building framed by palm trees, and sits next to the quaint Neilson Hays Library which has recently gone under major refurbishments. At the British Club members can pursue a host of sporting activities against a cityscape backdrop.
Ultimate Urban Living.
What Silom offers is convenience to experience urban living with ease. Walking to work is the supreme luxury and is why ASHTON Silom situated on Silom Road by Chong Nonsi BTS Station has quite rightly aroused a lot of interest. Likewise ASHTON Silom-Chula situated 550 meters from Sala Deang BTS Station has also proved to be another success. These luxurious condominiums play on their location offering residents the best of the best at home and of Bangkok.
Whilst this increased admiration for Silom is gathering rapid pace, there is already little space to develop thanks to the firmly rooted commercial presence in the neighborhood. This short supply helps to sustain demand making property in Silom a lucrative investment choice. Ananda’s strength is selecting locations near to Silom’s mass transit lines for the benefit of its investors.
